plant goddess
zone 3 community sketchbook
Community Sketchbook is a public art project and celebration with the Allston/Brighton community created by Zone 3. I had the honor of collaborating on a 200-foot wall with Tianna Rivera and project manager, Jenny Nguyen.
artist statement:
The inspiration behind the Plant Goddess is how the Allston/Brighton community is continuing to grow and thrive. We thrive because of goodness. Everyone works together as one beautiful organism. We look out for one another and when we come together, it's a beautiful place to be. The characters represent the goodness in people. The flowers and vegetation reflect the beautiful outcome of this relationship. The rats are a nod to the hilarious rats we have in the city.
paint-by-numbers workshop purpose:
The workshop's purpose is to create through the arts while exploring what growth and thriving mean as individuals and as a community. I hoped the project would empower participants in their stories by channeling their feelings and expressing themselves through creativity. I hoped it brought them a moment of reflection to think about how they've grown here, what uplifts them, and where they want to go. With the paint-by-numbers format, people found it intuitive and easy to follow. Art is for everyone. Public art can be for all if we increase its accessibility and open up opportunities for all to participate in various ways.

process
This was a serendipitous opportunity. I am lucky to have had this experience and worked with a beautiful team of people in preparation. From sketch to finish, it was seamless. As for the workshop, it was one of the most fulfilling and best days I’ve had as an artist. Connecting with people in the Allston/ Brighton community and hearing everyone’s story meant so much to me. I cannot thank Zone 3, the Isenberg Projects, and Harvard Designing and Planning for making this possible.
